The Meek Will He Guide

Psalm 25:8 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS

Those who are constantly defending themselves in the midst of wrongdoing find it difficult to receive knowledge and understanding. This is the point of today's passage. Our society increasingly resorts to making excuses as to why they feel it unnecessary to be taught or corrected for wrongdoing. Unfortunately, many Christians are increasingly guilty of this same character flaw. However, the Bible promises to guide the meek in judgment; that is, the meek will be led of the Lord in matters of judgment. In addition to this leading, the Lord will also teach the meek His way. However, when we are quick to defend ourselves when feeling threatened, we will not learn the Lord's lessons. We will not be guided by Him in judgment, nor will we be taught His way.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

• (For children): When you have misbehaved and mom or dad read Colossians 3:20 to you, how do you feel? Do you feel angry for being corrected with scripture or do you want to obey God more? If you want to learn other truths from the Bible, you need to do what you already know to do first.

• (For everyone): How do you respond to the Lord’s correction from the scriptures? Do you get offended when corrected by His word? Do you respond in meekness and genuine humility?

• Are you missing out on many of the Lord's blessings because of your unwillingness to be corrected? What lessons have you missed because of your unwise response? What judgments have you made on your own without the Lord's guidance? Are you tired of refusing to receive His correction?

PRAYER THOUGHTS

• Ask God to help you respond in a proper manner toward His correction.

• Ask the Lord to help you repent of stubbornness.
