My Help
Psalm 121:1-8
INTRODUCTION: According to Romans 15:4, “whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” Though the passage before obviously literally applied historically and prophetically to Israel, it was recorded, at least in part, for our learning and to give us hope.
I. THE SURRENDER TO GOD’S HELP (Psalm 121:1-3)
A. The Presence of Help (Psalm 121:1)
1. The nature of troubles unknown; Note: At times, God gave background details to aid in determining the prevalent circumstances of the time. In this passage, He did not do so.
2. The source of help well known
a. From the hills (Psalm 3:4); not the same as the hills referenced in Jeremiah 3:23

2. An act of surrender – “lift up mine eyes”

II. THE SUPERIORITY OF GOD’S HELP (Psalm 121:2-8)

A. The Reach of God’s Help (Psalm 121:3-7)

a. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved (Psalm 121:3).
b. He will shade thee from the sun and moon (Psalm 121:5-6).
2. The soul – “he shall preserve thy soul” (Psalm 121:7)

CONCLUSION: Help is available! Our help is from the LORD and it is sufficient to the troubles we face. While others look to self, social sources, or sin, we will lift our eyes unto the One who refuses slumber or sleep to be our sure defence.
