From Worship to Whining

Exodus 15:1-27

INTRODUCTION: One of the greatest worship services ever held occurred on the victory side of the Red Sea. Israel had high praises for all that God had done and high hopes for all that God was going to do. Up to this point, there had been no greater high. However, the fickleness of man shown through when, in only a matter of days, Israel went from worship to whining.

5. Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased (Exodus 15:16).
6. Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established (Exodus 15:17).

CONCLUSION: Many believers are quick with the mouth to declare the goodness of God on the heels of victory only to murmur and complain when things go contrary to their intended plans. The true manifestation of Israel’s character was not what we saw on the victory shore of the Red Sea, but in Marah.
