Give Your Best

Ecclesiastes 9:10; Malachi 1:6-14; Colossians 3:17-25

INTRODUCTION: The Bible is a motivational book! It offers encouragement in righteousness and issues warnings in the ways of unrighteousness. One area of specific motivation in the Bible is the admonition to give one’s best.

I. TO GOD (Malachi 1:6-14)

A. The Propensity to Give Our Best (Malachi 1:6)

1. A son honoureth his father.
2. A servant honoureth or feareth his master.

B. The Best for the Best (Malachi 1:6)

1. If then I be a father, where is mine honour?
2. If I be a master, where is my fear?

C. The Temptation Exhibited (Malachi 1:7-14)

1. To give that which is less than best (Malachi 1:7-8)
a. Offering polluted bread (Malachi 1:7)
b. Offering the blind (Malachi 1:8)
c. Offering the lame and sick (Malachi 1:8)
2. To revere man above God (Malachi 1:8)
3. To require the best (Malachi 1:10)
4. To withhold the best (Malachi 1:14)

II. TO OTHERS (Colossians 3:17-23; see Mark 12:28-31)

A. The Bookends of Admonition (Colossians 3:17, 23)

1. Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17).
2. Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord (Colossians 3:23)

B. Those Requiring Our Best (Colossians 3:18-22)

1. The marriage relationship (Colossians 3:18-19)
a. Premarital responsibilities
b. Marital responsibilities (Colossians 3:18-19)
1.) Wife to the husband (Colossians 3:18)
2.) Husband to the wife (Colossians 3:19)
2. The parental relationship (Colossians 3:20-21)
a. Children to the parents (Colossians 3:20)
b. Parents to the children (Colossians 3:21)
3. The servant/master relationship (Colossians 3:22)

C. The End of Our Service to Others (Colossians 3:24)

1. The reward of the inheritance
2. Service to the Lord Christ

CONCLUSION: To whom are you giving your best? If not the Lord, or those ordained of the Lord, your life is out of order and not well pleasing to Him.
