The Life of Confidence
Hebrews 10:19-25, 32-37
INTRODUCTION: Few Christians today possess the confidence gained by fellowship with the Lord. The results are crippling, both individually and collectively. Unfortunately, far too many preachers are furthering the problems by robbing believers of their confidence/assurance.
I. THE CAUSE OF CONFIDENCE (Hebrews 10:19-21)
A. Entrance into the Holiest (Hebrews 10:19-20)
1. By the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19)
2. Through His flesh (Hebrews 10:20)
B. An High Priest (Hebrews 10:21)
II. THE OUTCOME OF CONFIDENCE (Hebrews 10:22-25)
A. Our Private Life – Draw Near (Hebrews 10:22)
1. In sincerity – “with a true heart”
2. In confidence – “in full assurance of faith”
3. In cleanliness
a. Hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience
b. Bodies washed with pure water
B. Our Publick Life – Hold Fast (Hebrews 10:23)
1. Hold fast the profession of our faith
2. Without wavering
3. He is faithful that promised
C. Our Persuasive Life – Consider One Another (Hebrews 10:24-25)
1. Provoking one another (Hebrews 10:24)
a. Unto love
b. Unto good works
2. Assembling with one another (Hebrews 10:25)
3. Exhorting one another (Hebrews 10:25)
D. Our Progressive Life (Hebrews 10:25)
1. So much the more
2. As ye see the day approaching
III. THE CHARACTER OF CONFIDENCE (Hebrews 10:32-37)
A. Initial Endurance (Hebrews 10:32-34)
1. The time of endurance (Hebrews 10:32)
a. The former days
b. After ye were illuminated
2. The nature of endurance (Hebrews 10:33)
a. Made a gazingstock
b. Companions of others who were so used
3. The fellowship of endurance (Hebrews 10:34)
B. Continued Confidence (Hebrews 10:35)
1. Cast not away therefore your confidence
2. Which hath great recompence of reward
C. Patience (Hebrews 10:36-37)
1. Ye have need of patience (Hebrews 10:36)
2. After ye have done God’s will, ye might receive the promise (Hebrews 10:36)
3. Yet a little while, He shall come (Hebrews 10:37)
CONCLUSION: Are you fulfilling your obligations as a Christian? If not, perhaps you lack the basic confidence afforded you by access to the Father through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. If you lack the assurance enjoyed by sweet communion it will hinder everything else you do.
