The Life and Ministry of

Transgendered Christians
Mark 10:6; Romans 9:20
INTRODUCTION: There is a great deal of confusion in the world today. In fact, the more educated society becomes, the more they cannot figure out the simplest of truths. Historically, you would have never had someone struggle to fill out the gender section on an application, or struggle to determine which section of a store in which to shop, or struggle to determine which bathroom to use; or struggle on how to answer a child enquiring as to its gender. But here we are! How did we get here?
I. THE CREATED DIFFERENCES
A. The Stated Difference
1. The constant reminder
a. “Male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27)
b. “Male and female created he them” (Genesis 5:2); Note: God called their name Adam.
c. “He which made them at the beginning made them male and female” (Matthew 19:4)
d. “But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female” (Mark 10:6)
e. “This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female” (Leviticus 12:7)
2. The foolish interpretation—“There is neither male nor female” (Galatians 3:28)
B. The Source Difference
1. Man was created from the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7).
2. Women was created from the rib of the man (Genesis 2:22).
C. The Sensed Difference
1. Breasts (Exodus 2:7)
2. Voice boxes
3. Face shape
4. Hair (Genesis 27:11)
5. Internal organ size
6. Airways
7. Skeletal systems
8. Skin
9. Reproductive organs (Genesis 3:16)
10. Brain size and structure
11. Etc.
II. THE COMMANDED DIFFERENCES
A. The Sensed Difference
1. God created men and women with obvious physical distinctions. Many of those differences are unseen to the eyes of men and, therefore, God gave instructions to make the distinctions apparent to the eyes of all.
2. According to Deuteronomy 22:5, God called it an abomination for a man to put on a woman’s apparel or for a woman to put on a man’s apparel.
3. Furthermore, the New Testament encourages distinction in a man’s or woman’s hair.
a. It is a shame for a man to have long hair (1 Corinthians 11:14).
b. It is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven (1 Corinthians 11:6).
c. It is a glory for a woman to have long hair (1 Corinthians 11:15).
d. In Daniel’s seventieth week, locusts have “hair as the hair of women” (Revelation 9:8).
4. God made it clear that it was a sin for a man to be “effeminate” (1 Corinthians 6:9).
B. The Service Difference
1. God put a man in the garden and told him to work it (Genesis 2:8, 15). God later gave that man a wife to be an “help” that was meet for him (Genesis 2:18).
2. In the work of the tabernacle, God called men to devise cunning works in gold, silver, brass, stones, and timbers (Exodus 31:2-5) and women to spin the cloths (Exodus 35:25-26).
3. God told men to bare the ark in the midst of Jordan while other men carried stones across to set up a marker so that other men could answer the questions asked by their children in future generations (Joshua 4:1-7).
4. In the parables of Christ, a man sowed seed (Matthew 13:24), a woman mixed meal (Matthew 13:33), a man was a merchant (Matthew 13:45), and a woman swept her home searching for a piece of silver (Luke 15:8).
5. In the home, the husband is supposed give honour unto his wife “as unto the weaker vessel” (1 Peter 3:7) and the wife is supposed to submit unto her husband as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22; Colossians 3:18; 1 Peter 3:5).
6. In the church, women are to serve supporting roles but were warned “I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence” (1 Timothy 2:12). If they had questions, they were to ask their husbands who would teach them the truth from scripture. They were never to seek to destroy the work of God or the man of God with gossiping or a backbiting spirit and tongue. Search the scriptures, men taught, preached, and lead in the New Testament Church.
CONCLUSION: According to the scripture, “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump” (Galatians 5:9). While none of us may be guilty of the extremes we see today, we have to confess that the constant bombarding of the culture in which we live has taken its toll. As such, we must resolve to be what God made us to be and to the best we can at it.
