Who Has the Ring?
Esther 3:10
INTRODUCTION: One of the many great ways to study the Bible includes a cultural approach. This is often identified as Bible manners and customs. From these studies, we not only learn the culture of the Bible and how it differs from modern cultures, but we also gain practical applications intended to strengthen our walk with the Lord.
I. THE BIBLICAL IMPORTANCE OF THE RING
A. As Seen in James (James 2:2)
1. It signified wealth.
2. It signified influence.
B. As Seen in Luke (Luke 15:22)
1. It signified approval.
2. It signified promotion.
C. As Seen in Genesis (Genesis 41:42)
1. It signified promotion.
2. It signified power and authority.
D. As Seen in Esther (Esther 3:10-12)
1. It signified promotion.
2. It signified influence.
3. It signified power and authority.
II. THE DISTRIBUTION OF AHASUERUS’ RING
A. In the Hands of Haman (Esther 3:7-15; Esther 4:1-17; Esther 5:1-14; Esther 6:1-14; Esther 7:1-10)
1. The alienation of the Jews (Esther 3:7-15)
2. The troubling of the Jews (Esther 4:1-17)
3. The preparations for Mordecai’s death (Esther 5:9-14)
4. The troubling of the palace (Esther 5:1-8; Esther 6:1-3; Esther 7:1-10)
B. In the Hands of Mordecai (Esther 8:1-17; Esther 9:1-32; Esther 10:1-3)
1. The potential for the Jews to defend themselves (Esther 8:1-14)
2. The presence of gladness, light, joy, and honour (Esther 8:15-17)
3. The exaltation of the Jews (Esther 9:1-14)
4. The establishment of feasting and gladness (Esther 9:15-22, 26-32)
5. The voice of the Jews (Esther 10:1-3)
III. THE TRUTH CONVEYED TO US
A. Authority in the Hand of Evil
B. Authority in the Hand of Right
CONCLUSION: Misplaced authority yields grave consequences. In whose hand is the authority of your life (the flesh or the Spirit)? In whose hand is the authority of your mind? In whose hand have you placed the ring?
