Will Ye Also Go Away?

John 6:67, 28-71

INTRODUCTION: It has been said that everyone has a price, it only has to be determined what that price is. In the same sense, everyone has a breaking point where he will choose to walk away from his fellowship with the Lord. What is that price for you? It did not take much to drive away some of the Lord’s fringe disciples. It took a little more to drive away the betrayer. Even Simon Peter temporarily forsook the Lord. What would it take to cause you to cease from following after the Lord?

II. THE SON OF PERDITION (John 6:64, 70-71; Matthew 26:6-16)

A. The Preconceived Notion Against Judas

a. He is constantly labeled as the betrayer before he ever betrayed the Lord (Matthew 10:4; Mark 3:19; Luke 6:16).
b. He was called a devil by our Lord (John 6:70-71).

C. The Sin of Judas

1. The manifestation of the sin (Matthew 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; John 12:1-8)
a. The nature of the sin
1.) It was public.
2.) It was dealing in an area of Judas’ authority (the money).
3.) It was a cross in the wills of the Lord and Judas.
b. The open rebuke of the Lord
2. The rebellion of the sin
a. It does not appear that Judas had it in his heart before this event.
b. Judas’ rebellion followed the rebuke for this sin (Matthew 26:13-15; Mark 14:9-11).

III. THE BOISTEROUS APOSTLE (John 6:68-69)

A. Peter’s Stand (John 6:68-69)

1. His bold faith—walking on water (Matthew 14:25-29)
2. His bold proclamations—thou art the Christ

B. Peter’s Sifting (Matthew 26:31-74)

1. Pride—I will never deny (Matthew 26:31-33)

C. Peter’s Denial (Matthew 26:69-74)

CONCLUSION: What is your price? What will cause you to cease from your walk with the Lord?
